The Tower Mint carries on its popular Pitcairn Islands HMS Bounty Series in 2026 with a release that includes a meaningful commemorative privy mark. Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, every coin in the 2026 series features a QEII 100 privy mark on the obverse. This small detail is positioned just to the right of the portrait of His Majesty King Charles III and adds historical significance to the design. Right now, 2026 1/4 oz Pitcairn Islands Gold Bounty Coins are available online from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
The obverse of the 2026 1/4 oz Gold Bounty Coin displays a left-facing image of King Charles III. This is the first official effigy of the King and was created by designer Glyn Davies. The portrait presents His Majesty without a crown, offering a clean and modern appearance. Also featured on the obverse is the QEII 100 privy mark, which honors the centennial of Queen Elizabeth II’s birth and recognizes her lasting impact on British history.
On the reverse of the 2026 Pitcairn Islands Gold Bounty Coin is a detailed depiction of the HMS Bounty sailing at sea. The ship is best known for the famous mutiny led by Fletcher Christian in 1789. After taking control of the vessel, the mutineers eventually reached the remote Pitcairn Island, where they burned the ship and established a secluded settlement. The island remained unknown to the outside world for nearly two decades, and descendants of the original settlers still reside there today. The story of the HMS Bounty has influenced books, films, and discussions about authority and leadership for generations.
Following the mutiny, the crew members experienced very different outcomes. Fletcher Christian and eight fellow mutineers, along with six Tahitian men and twelve Tahitian women, settled on Pitcairn Island in 1790. Tensions and violence soon followed, largely due to competition over the limited number of women, resulting in the deaths of all the Tahitian men and most of the mutineers within a few years. Meanwhile, sixteen crewmen who stayed in Tahiti were later captured by HMS Pandora in 1791. After the ship sank, four drowned, and the survivors were taken back to England, where three were executed after court-martial.
These 2026 1/4 oz Pitcairn Islands Gold Bounty Coins are offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Each coin is packaged in a protective plastic flip and includes the special QEII 100 privy mark on the obverse field.
