The United States Mint launched the American Gold Eagle bullion program in 1986 and has issued these coins every year since then. By 2026, the series will reach 40 straight years of annual releases. To mark that achievement, the Mint celebrates the 40th anniversary with the same classic designs found on its 22-karat gold coins. The obverse of the 2026 1/4 oz Gold Eagle Coin features Lady Liberty in Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ famous 1907 design. Originally created for the $20 Double Eagle, this image shows Liberty walking forward with confidence. She holds a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, representing hope and peace.
On the reverse of the 2026 American Gold Eagle is the modern bald eagle portrait by Jennie Norris. Introduced in 2020 and first used on Gold Eagles in 2021, the design presents a close-up left-profile view of the eagle’s head. The strong relief and fine detailing give the coin a crisp, updated look.
The 1/4 oz Gold Eagle remains a favorite for buyers who want a fractional gold option without giving up the prestige of the series. When the new Norris reverse debuted in 2021, it brought refreshed artistry and added design security to the denomination, while keeping the Saint-Gaudens Liberty on the obverse that collectors and investors recognize.
These 2026 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coins are certified MS 70 and sealed in protective slabs. An MS 70 grade indicates a coin with clean surfaces and complete mint luster, showing no visible flaws under normal viewing.
