First released in 1979, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf has become one of the most trusted gold bullion coins in the world. It is the second-oldest gold bullion series still being made today, following the South African Krugerrand. The series began with just a single weight, but over time it has grown to include six sizes each year. Among these, the 1 oz coin remains the most popular, but fractional sizes like the 1/2 oz version are also highly sought after. You can now find the 2026 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin available at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
The obverse of the 2026 1/2 oz Gold Maple Leaf features the first Canadian coin portrait of King Charles III. This design, created by Canadian artist Steven Rosati, shows the king in left-profile without a crown. It is only the third time a Canadian artist has crafted a royal portrait for the nation’s coin program.
On the reverse of the coin, you’ll find the well-known sugar maple leaf created by Walter Ott. First used in 1979, this artwork has come to symbolize the entire Maple Leaf coin series. The design is shared across Canada’s Gold, Silver, Platinum, and Palladium Maple Leaf programs, making it one of the most recognizable images in modern bullion.
Sugar maples naturally produce winged seeds, called samaras, that can drift several hundred feet from the tree. However, their spread is usually slow, as they rely heavily on specific temperature and moisture conditions, unlike some hardier maple species that adapt more quickly.
Each 2026 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin is offered individually in a protective plastic flip, or in sealed sheets of 10 coins for larger orders. While the Gold Maple Leaf debuted in 1979, the 1/2 oz size was not added until 1986, making it the third fractional weight introduced in the series.
