In 2026, the United States Mint marks 40 years of American Gold Eagle gold bullion coins. First released in 1986, this series became the Mint’s first continuing gold coin program after U.S. gold coin production paused in 1933. Gold Eagles are not made for daily spending, but they are still legal tender in the United States. With their trusted gold content and decades-long history, they remain a steady option for those who want to add precious metals to a broader strategy. Right now, certified 2026 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins are available from BullionMax.

Coin Highlights:

  • Arrives in an individual plastic slab!
  • 40th-anniversary release of American Gold Eagles!
  • Limited availability of certified perfect coins!
  • Contains 1/2 troy oz of actual gold content.
  • Bears a face value of $25 (USD) backed by the federal government.
  • Issued a Grade of Mint State 70 by the Professional Coin Grading Service.
  • First Strike.
  • Obverse captures a depiction of Lady Liberty.
  • Reverse features the American bald eagle.

Each 2026 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coin in this listing is a perfect MS70 example. Coins with this grade show full mint luster and no visible flaws under standard viewing. These are also First Strike coins, meaning they were submitted to PCGS and received for grading within 30 days of the Mint’s initial release.

The 1/2 oz Gold Eagle has been produced at the West Point Mint and at times other U.S. Mint facilities, with proof editions offering a different finish for collectors. Even with a few pauses over the years, the 1/2 oz coin has stayed an important part of the American Gold Eagle lineup. It continues to appeal to buyers who want a recognizable U.S. gold coin in a convenient mid-size weight.

The obverse of the 2026 American Gold Eagle features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ well-known Lady Liberty design, first created for the historic $20 Double Eagle. Liberty is shown walking forward with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. The Capitol building appears in the lower background, sun rays rise behind her, and stars circle the outer edge.

On the reverse of the 2026 1/2 oz Gold Eagle is Jennie Norris’ modern bald eagle portrait, introduced in 2020. The close-up view highlights the eagle’s head in sharp detail, giving the coin a clean, updated look that pairs well with the classic front design.
