The United States Mint marks 40 years of American Eagle gold bullion coins in 2026. First released in 1986, the American Gold Eagle program brought regular gold coin production back to the US Mint for the first time since 1933. While these coins aren’t made for day-to-day spending, they are legal tender in the United States and are widely collected and purchased as a way to hold gold during times of economic uncertainty. Right now, 2026 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins in certified condition are available online from BullionMax.

Coin Highlights:

  • Coin arrives inside a plastic slab!
  • 40th anniversary of the Gold Eagle!
  • Limited availability of certified coins!
  • Contains 1/2 troy oz of actual gold content.
  • Issued a face value of $25 (USD) by the United States.
  • Bears a Grade of Mint State 69 from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • Early Release.
  • Obverse depicts Lady Liberty.
  • Reverse features an American bald eagle.

On the obverse of the 2026 1/2 oz Gold Eagle, the US Mint uses Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ well-known Lady Liberty design, first seen on the historic $20 Double Eagle. Liberty is shown in full length, walking forward confidently with a torch held high in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Behind her, rays of sunlight spread outward, while the U.S. Capitol appears near her feet. A ring of stars frames the outer field.

The reverse of 2026 American Gold Eagles features the updated bald eagle design introduced in 2020. Created by Jennie Norris, this image gives a close-up view of the eagle’s head. The detail in the feathers and facial features gives the design a clean, modern look that stands out on the coin.

The 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle debuted in 1986 along with the 1 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz options after the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985 authorized the series. Struck in 22-karat gold, each coin contains one-half troy ounce of gold and carries a $25 face value. This middle weight is popular with buyers who want a size that’s easier to budget for than a full ounce.

These 2026 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins are graded Mint State 69 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. MS69 coins display full mint luster with only very small, light marks that are kept away from major design focal points. Early Release means the coins were submitted for grading within 30 days of the mint’s official release.
