The original designs used for the Gold Libertad Series come from the 1921 Gold Centenario. This famous 50-peso coin was created to celebrate 100 years of Mexico’s independence from Spain. It features the image of Winged Victory, shown holding a laurel wreath and broken chains as symbols of freedom. The reverse of the Centenario displays Mexico’s coat of arms with an eagle perched on a cactus eating a snake.

Each 2015 1 oz Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Coin is housed in a protective plastic capsule. These coins display frosted details that stand out against a shiny, mirror-like background. In 2015, the 1 oz Proof Gold Libertad had a total mintage of just 500 coins, the highest mintage for this size since 2011.

The obverse of the 2015 Proof Mexican Gold Libertad shows different versions of Mexico’s coat of arms. In the center is the modern seal, where a golden eagle grips a serpent atop a prickly pear cactus. Around the outer edge are 10 historic versions of the national seal, representing the rich history of Mexico.

On the reverse, you’ll find the statue of Winged Victory. This design is a modern update of the classic Centenario image, showing Winged Victory in three-quarter relief with a laurel wreath in her right hand and broken chains in her left.
