Product Details

Chinese Gold Panda Coins are a long-running favorite with gold buyers. Launched in 1982, the series is known for changing its Giant Panda artwork every year. Over more than forty years, only one design has ever been repeated. Right now, 2001 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coins are available at BullionMax.

Coin Highlights:

  • Coin arrives in a sealed plastic pouch!
  • 20th issue of 1 oz Gold Panda Coins!
  • Contains 1 troy oz of .999 pure gold.
  • Bears a face value of 500 Yuan backed by the government of China.
  • The obverse features the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests.
  • On the reverse is the image of a Giant Panda strolling through bamboo.

Each 2001 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin listed here comes sealed in plastic. The 2001 release stood out in two ways. First, it was the first year that Gold Pandas carried larger face values. From 1982 to 2000, the 1 oz coin showed 100 Yuan, while the 2001 issue introduced the 500 Yuan face value. Just as notable for collectors, the 2001 design was the only one in the program to appear again, returning on the 2002 coins.

Giant pandas combine the strength of a bear with features tailored to a bamboo diet. Their black-and-white coat helps them blend into shaded forests, and strong jaw muscles with broad molars handle tough bamboo stalks. They also have a “pseudo-thumb,” an enlarged wrist bone that works like an extra digit for gripping shoots.

For the obverse of the 2001 Chinese Gold Panda, you’ll find the consistent design used since 1982. The building shown is the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests, the central hall of the Temple of Heaven complex. This site, completed in 1420, sits in south-central Beijing.

In the reverse design of the 2001 1 oz Gold Panda Coin, the mint created a new image specifically for this year. The 2001 coins present a Giant Panda moving through bamboo, continuing the series’ tradition of annual artwork changes. The design highlights the panda’s calm presence and instantly recognizable look.
