Cuban gold pesos from the First Republic period are appreciated by collectors for their historical background and beautiful designs. These gold pesos were first produced in 1915 during the presidency of Mario García Menocal. The coins feature the Cuban coat of arms on the obverse and display the face value, date, and a portrait of Jose Marti on the reverse. Struck in 90% gold, they were issued in several denominations, including 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, and 20 pesos. Right now, 2 Peso Cuba Gold Coins are available to you through BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Cuban Gold Pesos were mainly struck in 1915 and 1916, with circulation continuing for about 20 years. After the Spanish-American War ended in 1898, the Republic of Cuba was officially established on May 20, 1902, when the United States handed over control to the Cuban government. This era, which lasted until 1952 when Fulgencio Batista took power, was marked by Cuba’s efforts to secure full independence despite restrictions placed by the Platt Amendment, which allowed the U.S. to intervene in Cuban matters.
Each 2 Peso Cuba Gold Coin offered here ships in protective plastic. These coins are struck in 90% gold, with copper making up the remaining metal content. The listing includes coins from random years, in various conditions and types (BU or proof). We do not guarantee specific years, types, or conditions. If you purchase more than one, coins may be the same or different.
The obverse of the 2 Peso Cuba Gold Coins displays the national coat of arms of Cuba. This detailed emblem shows a shield with a key between two shores, a rising sun above a landscape, and a royal palm. The shield is supported by an oak branch for strength and a laurel wreath for victory, topped with a Phrygian cap symbolizing liberty.
The reverse side shows a right-facing portrait of Jose Marti. Martí is remembered as a key figure in Cuba’s fight for independence through his writings, leadership, and sacrifice. A poet, journalist, and revolutionary, Martí’s ideas and efforts continue to be a symbol of Cuban identity and resistance to colonialism and foreign control.
