The American Southwest now features the Arizona Goldback Series, a new branch of the Goldback family. Each design shines a light on Arizona’s rich past, touching on early Spanish exploration, the Mexican period, and Arizona’s path to U.S. statehood. Right now, 2 Arizona Goldback Gold Notes are available at BullionMax.
Note Highlights:
Each 2 Arizona Goldback Gold Note comes sealed in a protective currency sleeve. The 2 Goldback denomination joined the lineup with the launch of the Florida Goldbacks in early 2025, and Arizona follows with its own take. This 2 Arizona design pays tribute to the 1869 Powell Geographic Expedition into the Grand Canyon.
In May 1869, John Wesley Powell and nine crew members set off from Green River, Wyoming, in four wooden boats. Over the next three months, they pushed through unknown stretches of the Colorado River system, completing the first recorded passage through the Grand Canyon. Along the way they faced capsized boats, lost gear, tough rapids, and short supplies. Three men left the expedition just days before the finish and were killed after exiting the canyon.
The artwork on the 2 Arizona Goldback Gold Note depicts the allegory of Exploration riding in a wooden boat along the Colorado River within the Grand Canyon. In the distance, Major Powell is shown in his own boat, marking his role in the journey. A Civil War veteran who lost his right arm at the Battle of Shiloh, John Wesley Powell went on to become a leading 19th-century explorer, geologist, and ethnologist focused on the American West.
