The Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle stands out as a key piece in American coin history. First issued in 1907, this design marked the final chapter of the Pre-1933 $20 Double Eagle series and introduced a powerful new vision of Liberty. Today, BullionMax offers the 1927 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle in certified condition for collectors and investors.
Coin Highlights:
Each 1927 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coin offered here has been graded Mint State 66+ by PCGS. These coins are considered high-end for their grade, showing excellent mint luster and only a handful of small marks, none of which are in major focal points. No hairlines are visible without magnification.
In 1927, all three U.S. Mints—Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Denver—produced Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles. San Francisco led in total output, followed by Philadelphia, which struck nearly 2.95 million coins. Despite this, only about 178,000 examples from Philadelphia remain in Mint State today. PCGS estimates that roughly 365 of these coins have received the MS66+ grade.
The obverse of the 1927 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle presents Lady Liberty standing tall. Shown in full length, she holds a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Behind her are rays of sunlight, while stars frame the scene and the U.S. Capitol is visible at her feet.
On the reverse, the design features a bald eagle mid-flight. Shown in left-profile, the eagle soars across the coin with the sun rising below, creating a dynamic and uplifting image.
