In 1926, the United States marked 150 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. To recognize the occasion, the U.S. Mint released a commemorative $2.50 gold quarter eagle. Today, BullionMax offers 1926 $2.50 Sesquicentennial Gold Coins in Extremely Fine condition, giving collectors an accessible piece of American history.
Coin Highlights:
The obverse of 1926 $2.50 Sesquicentennial Gold Coins shows Lady Liberty in a flowing gown. She holds a parchment in her left hand to represent the Declaration of Independence and raises a lit torch in her right hand. The dual dates for the sesquicentennial are also presented on this side.
On the reverse of 1926 Sesquicentennial Gold Coins, Independence Hall in Philadelphia appears as the central design. The coin was created by U.S. Mint Engraver John R. Sinnock and carried an authorized mintage of 200,000 pieces. Although that figure was struck, demand was soft and many coins were later melted. The reported number that avoided melting was 46,019 coins.
The national observance centered in Philadelphia—the birthplace of American independence—where a major exposition ran from June to November. The Sesquicentennial International Exposition highlighted the nation’s first 150 years of industrial growth, technology, and culture. Despite its broad scope, the fair faced financial challenges and attendance fell below expectations.
These 1926 $2.50 Sesquicentennial Gold Coins are housed in plastic flips and offered in Extremely Fine+ condition. Coins at this grade typically show only light friction on the highest points of the design while retaining strong overall detail.
