The Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle is the second and final design used on the $20 Gold Double Eagle from the United States Mint. First released in 1907, this classic look stayed in production until 1933, with a brief pause during and after World War I. Today, you can find 1924 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coins in certified condition available at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Augustus Saint-Gaudens developed the Liberty design for the 1907 $20 Double Eagle after receiving a commission from President Theodore Roosevelt in 1905. Working through poor health, he created numerous sketches and clay models to achieve the high-relief style he wanted. He collaborated closely with Roosevelt, who supported the goal of making American coins as attractive as classical examples.
All 1924 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coins offered here are certified Mint State 66. In this grade, coins display strong luster with only three or four minor contact marks. Under magnification, you may see a few light hairlines and a small number of tiny imperfections in the main focal areas.
On the obverse of the 1924 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle is the well-known image of Lady Liberty. Saint-Gaudens shows Liberty striding forward in high relief, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left.
The reverse of the 1924 $20 Gold Double Eagle features an American bald eagle gliding across the sky with the rising sun below. Type II pieces in this series use Arabic numerals and show 48 stars on the obverse, along with the national motto “In God We Trust” on the reverse.
