The 1913 $10 Canadian Gold Reserve Coin is part of the historic Bank of Canada hoard, a fascinating piece of history. Struck between 1912 and 1914, these coins were kept out of circulation for many years due to the outbreak of World War I. Most were stored away by the Canadian government, only to be released to collectors in 2012, nearly a century later. Right now, you can purchase 1913 $10 Canadian Gold Reserve Coins in certified condition from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Each 1913 $10 Canadian Gold Reserve Coin offered here is in a plastic slab and graded Mint State 64 by either the PCGS or the NGC. MS64 coins typically show average mint luster with small contact marks in groups. Some coins may have one or two heavier marks or light hairlines. While these coins all feature MS64 grades, we cannot guarantee whether you will receive an NGC or PCGS specimen.
The 1913 $10 Canadian Gold Reserve Coins were produced by the Royal Canadian Mint as part of a series struck between 1912 and 1914. However, due to the onset of World War I, most coins were never released into circulation. Instead, they were stored in vaults by Canadian banks and eventually by the Department of Finance, with many kept hidden at the Bank of Canada. It wasn’t until 2012 that these coins were made available for the first time.
On the obverse of the 1913 $10 Canadian Gold Reserve Coin, you’ll find a left-profile portrait of King George V, the first official portrait of his reign. He is depicted wearing the Imperial State Crown. The Latin inscriptions commemorate his reign from 1910 to 1936.
The reverse side features the Canadian Coat of Arms, which was adopted in 1868 by Canada’s four founding provinces. The coat of arms is a quartered shield, with each quadrant representing one of these provinces.
