One of the most enduring coin designs in American history is the Liberty Head Eagle, created by Christian Gobrecht. Introduced in 1838, the design appeared on the Eagle, Half Eagle, and Quarter Eagle that same year. These coins remained in use with this design until 1908 for several denominations. Among the more popular editions are those struck at the Carson City Mint, including the 1893-CC $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagles. Right now, certified 1893-CC $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle Coins are available to buy online at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
The obverse of the 1893-CC Liberty Half Eagle features Lady Liberty in left-profile relief. She wears a coronet inscribed with the word “Liberty,” and her image is surrounded by 13 stars representing the original colonies. The date of issue appears just beneath her portrait.
On the reverse of the 1893-CC $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle is the image of a heraldic eagle. This version shows the eagle facing forward with a national shield on its chest. It holds arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. Above the eagle, a ribbon displays the national motto, signifying this coin as a Type II reverse design.
The Carson City Mint struck its final Liberty Half Eagles in 1893 before closing later that year. Other mints producing this denomination in 1893 included Philadelphia, New Orleans, and San Francisco. Of those, Philadelphia made the most with over 1.5 million coins. New Orleans and San Francisco contributed 110,000 and 224,000 coins, respectively.
These 1893-CC $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagles are available in Mint State 61 condition. This grade indicates diminished or slightly impaired mint luster and several noticeable contact marks. Some hairlines may also be present on the coin’s surfaces.
