Carson City Double Eagles with the “CC” mintmark are known for their lower production numbers compared to coins from the Philadelphia and San Francisco Mints. Because the Carson City Mint struck relatively few coins, some dates in the series are considered rarities, with certain years seeing fewer than 5,000 coins produced. These factors, combined with the historical significance of the Carson City Mint and the gold content of the coins, make them especially appealing to collectors. Right now, BullionMax offers 1882-CC $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coins online.
Coin Highlights:
The obverse of the 1882-CC Liberty Gold Double Eagle features a portrait of Lady Liberty. She faces to the left and wears a coronet with the word “Liberty” engraved on it. Her hair is pulled back in curls, and 13 stars surround her image to represent the original colonies.
On the reverse of the 1882-CC $20 Double Eagle, you’ll see the Great Seal of the United States. This includes a bald eagle holding arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing both defense and peace. The eagle stands in front of a national shield. As a Type III version, this design includes the full national motto and an updated look at the coin’s denomination.
In 1882, all three US Mints that produced gold coins were active, helping meet the growing demand for gold money during a time of expanding business activity. The overall production of the Double Eagle that year reflects the strength of the gold mining industry and the economy.
These 1882-CC $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coins are available here in Extremely Fine 45 (XF45) condition. That means there’s light wear on the coin’s highest areas, but some original mint luster may still be visible.
