From 1795 to 1933, $10 gold coins—known as Eagles—circulated in everyday commerce and also moved across borders to settle international trades. One of the longest-running designs from this era is the Liberty Gold Eagle, first issued in 1838 and used with the same core artwork through 1907. Now, certified 1856-S $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins are available online at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
The obverse of the 1856-S Liberty Gold Eagle shows a left-facing portrait of Liberty. Introduced in 1838, the design depicts Liberty with her hair in a bun and a coronet crown. Thirteen stars arc around the field, with the date placed below.
The reverse of the 1856-S $10 Gold Eagle features the heraldic eagle introduced in 1838. The bald eagle faces forward with the national shield on its chest and looks to the left, while its talons grasp a bundle of arrows and an olive branch.
In 1856, the United States Mint struck $10 Liberty Eagles at three locations. San Francisco produced the largest share with 68,000 coins, followed by Philadelphia at 60,490 coins, and New Orleans with 14,500 coins.
These 1856-S $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins are certified AU58. This level sits at the high end of About Uncirculated and indicates wear limited to the highest points of the design, with only light signs of handling. Each coin’s AU58 grade from PCGS is further verified by CAC and identified by a CAC sticker on the slab.
