The obverse of the 1 oz Reverse Proof Gold Libertad includes the national coat of arms of Mexico. This symbol, rooted in Aztec history, was first seen in the 1524 Codex Mendoza. It features a golden eagle eating a snake while perched on a prickly pear cactus. Around the main image are 10 earlier versions of the coat of arms, including the one from the Codex Mendoza, placed at the top of the ring.

On the reverse side of the Reverse Proof Mexican Gold Libertad is the image of Winged Victory. This statue stands at the top of the Independence Victory Column in Mexico City and is modeled after Nike, the ancient Greek goddess of victory. She is shown with her right hand extended and her left holding broken chains, with the snow-capped peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl visible in the background.

The Reverse Proof Gold Libertad made its debut in 2018 and is only available in select weights. Among the 1 oz versions, the 2022 release saw the highest production with 1,300 coins, while the 2020 issue had the lowest at just 250 coins.

These coins are packaged in protective capsules and have a reverse proof finish, which highlights the design in a mirrored polish with frosted backgrounds.
