The Sacramento Kings have one of the most storied and complex histories in professional basketball. The franchise originated as the Rochester Royals in 1945, joining the National Basketball League before later becoming part of the NBA. The team won the 1951 NBA Championship in Rochester, then relocated to Cincinnati in 1957 as the Cincinnati Royals. In 1972, the franchise moved to Kansas City, playing briefly as the Kansas City-Omaha Kings before settling in Sacramento in 1985.
