The Washington Wizards franchise has one of the most complex relocation and renaming histories in the NBA. Originally founded in Chicago in 1961 as the Packers, the team played one season as the Zephyrs before moving to Baltimore in 1963 to become the Bullets. The franchise later relocated to Washington, D.C., where it was known as the Capital Bullets and then the Washington Bullets before adopting the Wizards name in 1997 as part of a full rebranding effort.
