Goldbacks are a privately issued form of voluntary local currency created from a thin layer of 24-karat gold sealed inside durable polyester sheets. Each note showcases intricate artwork and contains a precisely measured fractional amount of real gold. This unique format makes Goldbacks one of the few modern currencies made with physical gold that can be used in everyday exchanges. Originally launched in Utah, the series has expanded to include additional states, blending the long-term value of precious metals with a practical approach to daily transactions. With the release of the Idaho Goldback, the series introduces a new denomination, and each note incorporates design features tied to the culture and natural landmarks of the issuing state. Right now, 1/4 Idaho Goldback Gold Notes are available at BullionMax.

Note Highlights:

  • Arrives in protective currency sleeves or in bundles of 100 notes!
  • New Goldback denomination!
  • Smallest denomination in the series!
  • Justitia-inspired design!
  • Contains 1/4000 troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • The design features the allegory Justitia near Hells Canyon in Idaho.
  • Please note that Goldbacks are NOT US legal tender.
  • UV enhancements and other advanced security features included.

Each 1/4 Idaho Goldback Gold Note offered here contains brilliant 24-karat gold sealed within the note. The main design appears on the obverse, while the reverse shows a mirrored version of that artwork. Individual notes arrive in protective currency sleeves. Orders of 100 notes are packaged together without sleeves and secured with a black bundle band. For security and authenticity, every Goldback includes UV-reactive artwork, detailed micro-printing, and a unique serial number.

Justitia, the Roman symbol of Justice, is one of the most recognizable allegorical figures in Western culture. She is typically shown wearing a blindfold to represent impartiality and fairness. In her hands, she carries balanced scales to measure the arguments of each side and a double-edged sword representing the authority to enforce judgment. Her name comes from the Latin word justitia, meaning fairness and righteousness, reflecting the idea that justice should be applied equally and without bias.

On the 1/4 Idaho Goldback Gold Note, Justitia appears with the dramatic landscape of Hells Canyon behind her. Formed over millions of years by the powerful flow of the Snake River, Hells Canyon is the deepest river gorge in North America, reaching depths of about 7,993 feet along the border between Idaho and Oregon. Details on her belt include images of the syringa and the monarch butterfly. The syringa, Idaho’s state flower, is a native shrub known for its small white blossoms and pleasant fragrance. Alongside it is the monarch butterfly, which was designated as Idaho’s official state insect in 1992.
