The front of the 1/2 Oklahoma Goldback Gold Note shows a cowgirl on horseback, skillfully roping cattle. This design honors Oklahoma’s strong ranching traditions. Today, the state still celebrates its cowboy roots through rodeos, working ranches, and cultural icons like Gene Autry. The theme reflects values such as independence, horsemanship, and a deep respect for the land.

Oklahoma’s cowboy era began in the late 19th century when cattle were driven from Texas to Kansas along routes like the Chisholm Trail. After the 1889 land runs, settlers and ranchers claimed land in what would become Oklahoma, laying the groundwork for the state’s ranching legacy that continues today.
