Sleipnir, the legendary eight-legged horse ridden by Odin, has one of the best-known stories in Norse mythology. According to the ancient legends, Loki transformed into a mare to lure away the giant stallion Svaðilfari and stop the completion of Asgard’s protective wall before the agreed deadline. From that unexpected event came Sleipnir, the remarkable foal who eventually became Odin’s trusted mount and was celebrated as the greatest horse in the Norse world.

The obverse of the 2026 Germania Beasts Sleipnir Silver Round features the upper front portion of Odin’s famous horse. Inspired by descriptions found in the Norse Eddas, Sleipnir is shown with his famous eight legs, creating a striking and memorable appearance. The rune Alu appears on his teeth, symbolizing the magical nature and supernatural strength associated with this legendary creature.
