The Mexican Mint is responsible for producing the Mexican Libertad bullion coin series and is widely known as the oldest operating mint in the Western Hemisphere. First introduced in the 1980s, the Libertad series includes both gold and silver options, with designs influenced by the historic 1921 Gold Centenario. In 2025, the mint made notable changes by lowering mintages for Silver Libertads and not issuing Gold Libertads at all. As a result, BU Silver Libertads from this year have some of the lowest production totals seen in the series, which could influence collector interest over time. Right now, 2025 1 Kilo Reverse Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are available from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Winged Victory has been featured on Mexican Libertad coins since the series began in the 1980s. The image is based on the Angel of Independence statue, which was completed in 1910. Italian sculptor Enrique Alciati created the figure as part of Mexico’s centennial celebration. The statue, made of bronze and finished with gold leaf, stands about 6.7 meters tall. It shows a winged angel raising a laurel wreath in her right hand while holding broken chains in her left. The design reflects both a classical style and themes tied to Mexico’s independence.
Each 2025 1 Kilo Reverse Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coin offered here comes in a presentation box and includes a Certificate of Authenticity from the mint. The reverse-proof finish gives the coin a unique look, with mirrored design details set against a frosted background.
On the obverse of the 2025 Reverse Proof Mexican Silver Libertad is the Mexican coat of arms. This design shows an eagle standing on a cactus while holding a serpent in its beak and talons. On coins weighing 1 oz and larger, the central emblem is surrounded by 10 earlier versions of the national coat of arms.
The reverse of the 2025 1 Kilo Reverse Proof Silver Libertad Coin features Winged Victory. This design, introduced in its current version in 1996, presents a three-quarter view of Victory standing atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City.
