Mexican Silver Libertad coins are produced each year by the Mexican Mint and remain a popular choice for silver buyers. The series started in 1982 with just one weight, but it has expanded over time to include a wider selection. Today, the lineup features four fractional coins along with 1 oz, 2 oz, and 5 oz options. Right now, 2019 5 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins in certified condition are available from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
These 2019 5 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are offered as flawless examples in protective slabs. Coins graded Mint State 70 show full mint luster and no visible marks. In 2019, the 5 oz Libertad was the largest silver coin released in the series, as no 1-kilo version was issued that year.
On the obverse of the 2019 Mexican Silver Libertad is the design used on coins weighing 1 oz and above. At the center is Mexico’s current coat of arms, which shows an eagle holding a serpent while standing on a cactus. Around this central image is the country’s official name in Spanish, along with a wreath design. Along the outer edge, you will also find 10 earlier versions of the national seal arranged in a circle.
The reverse of the 2019 5 oz Silver Libertad Coin features the well-known image of Winged Victory. Behind her are the mountain peaks of Iztaccihuatl and Popocatepetl, two volcanoes located near Mexico City that are part of a long-standing Aztec story. Also included are the “OM” mint mark from the Mexican Mint and inscriptions listing the coin’s weight, metal content, and purity. Winged Victory is shown in left-profile, holding a wreath above her head and broken chains in her other hand.
The Mexican Silver Libertad series grew in 1991 with the addition of fractional coins in 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz sizes. Later, in 1996, the 2 oz and 5 oz coins were introduced, helping round out the modern selection of weights available today.
