Among the more recognizable designs in precious metals, silver bullion bars and rounds featuring the Aztec Sun Stone continue to attract attention from both investors and history-minded collectors. The detailed circular layout and layered imagery of the Sun Stone translate clearly onto silver, offering a piece that combines visual detail with bullion value. These silver bars provide a way to connect with one of the most well-known symbols of Mesoamerican culture while adding a tangible asset to your collection. Right now, 1 oz SilverTowne Aztec Calendar Silver Bars are available online at BullionMax.
Bar Highlights:
These 1 oz SilverTowne Aztec Calendar Silver Bars are packaged individually in plastic flips, with larger quantities available in acrylic tubes of 20 bars. The design on each bar is inspired by the famous Aztec Calendar Stone, also known as the Sun Stone, which remains an important artifact from Mesoamerican history.
In the obverse design of the SilverTowne Aztec Calendar Silver Bar, you will find a detailed depiction of the Sun Stone. This design includes a wide range of symbolic elements tied to Aztec beliefs and their understanding of the universe. At the center is the face of Tonatiuh, the sun god, surrounded by four panels that represent earlier eras of the world, each believed to have ended in destruction. Moving outward, the design includes the 20 day-signs from the Aztec ritual calendar, along with rays of the sun, symbols associated with wealth such as jade and turquoise, and two fire serpents known as Xiuhcoatl that frame the outer edge.
On the reverse of the SilverTowne Aztec Calendar Silver Bar, a portion of the same Sun Stone design is repeated, offering a continuation of the detailed artwork seen on the obverse.
After the fall of the Aztec Empire in 1521, when Spanish forces led by Hernán Cortés captured Tenochtitlán, the Sun Stone was hidden from view. Spanish authorities, aiming to replace indigenous traditions with Christianity, buried or concealed many important cultural artifacts. The Sun Stone was placed beneath what is now Mexico City’s central plaza, the Zócalo, where it remained undiscovered for more than 250 years.
