Among the many designs available in silver bullion, the Aztec Sun Stone stands out for its detailed and recognizable appearance. Silver bars and rounds featuring this historic design are popular with both investors and collectors who appreciate cultural themes. The layered patterns and symbols of the Sun Stone translate clearly onto silver, offering a piece that is both visually interesting and easy to store. These rounds provide a connection to one of the most well-known artifacts from Mesoamerican history. Right now, 1 oz SilverTowne Aztec Calendar Silver Rounds are available from BullionMax.
Round Highlights:
The Aztec Sun Stone was carved from a single large basalt slab during the rule of Emperor Axayacatl, with its completion believed to date to around 1479 CE. Measuring roughly 3.6 meters across and weighing close to 24 metric tons, it served as both a ceremonial object and a representation of Aztec views on time and the universe. It is commonly associated with Tonatiuh, the sun god, and may have functioned as a ritual altar or a symbolic depiction of cycles of creation and destruction.
All 1 oz SilverTowne Aztec Calendar Silver Rounds feature detailed designs on both sides that reflect elements of Mesoamerican culture. Individual rounds are packaged in plastic flips, while larger quantities are offered in protective tubes of 20 or Master Boxes of 500 rounds. Each Master Box contains a total of 25 tubes.
In the obverse design of the SilverTowne Aztec Calendar Silver Round, the Sun Stone is shown in careful detail. The design includes the central face of Tonatiuh, surrounded by four panels representing earlier world eras in Aztec belief. Around these elements are additional rings that display day-signs from the Aztec calendar, along with symbols tied to value and natural elements. The outer edge features two fire serpents, known as Xiuhcoatl, completing the circular design.
For the reverse of 1 oz Aztec Calendar Silver Rounds, the design features a right-facing bust of Emperor Cuahtemoc. Known as the final ruler of the Aztec Empire, Cuauhtémoc led during a challenging period from 1520 to 1521. His name translates to “Descending Eagle,” and he is remembered for resisting Spanish forces under Hernán Cortés. He defended the city of Tenochtitlán during a lengthy siege before being captured in 1521.
