On the obverse of the 2004 Australian Silver Kookaburra Coin is Ian Rank-Broadley’s right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Introduced on Australian coinage in 1999, this effigy features Her Majesty wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The portrait remained in use through 2018 and became one of the most familiar royal designs found on modern Commonwealth coinage.

The reverse of the 2004 10 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra Coin showcases two kookaburras in a natural outdoor setting. Designed by Jovan Radanovich, the artwork depicts one bird perched on a tree branch with its beak open as it delivers the species’ well-known laughing call. A second kookaburra is shown flying in the background, adding movement and depth to the design.
