Goldbacks are privately issued notes that function as a voluntary local currency. Each note is made from a thin layer of 24-karat gold sealed between durable sheets of protective polymer. The result is a flexible note that contains a small but measurable amount of real gold. Goldbacks are designed to combine the long-standing value of precious metals with the convenience of a note that can be used in everyday transactions. The program first began in Utah and has gradually expanded to additional states. With the introduction of the Idaho Goldback series, another state joins the program, with designs that reflect its natural features and heritage. Right now, 1/4 Idaho Goldback Gold Note Sets of 100 are available at BullionMax.
Note Highlights:
Justitia, the Roman figure who represents Justice, is one of the most widely recognized allegorical figures in Western culture. She is commonly shown wearing a blindfold to symbolize fairness and impartiality. In her hands are balanced scales used to measure competing arguments and a double-edged sword representing the authority to carry out judgment. Her name comes from the Latin word justitia, meaning fairness and righteousness. Through this imagery, Justitia represents the idea that justice should be applied equally and without bias.
Each 1/4 Idaho Goldback Gold Note Set includes a total of 100 individual notes. The notes are packaged together with a black band and feature a range of built-in security elements. These features include UV-reactive artwork, micro-printing, and unique serial numbers that help verify the authenticity of each note.
On the obverse of the 1/4 Idaho Goldback Gold Note, the allegorical figure of Justitia is shown with Hells Canyon in the background. Hells Canyon was formed over millions of years as the Snake River gradually carved through the surrounding landscape. Located along the border between Idaho and Oregon, it is the deepest river gorge in North America, reaching depths of about 7,993 feet. Decorative elements on Justitia’s belt include the syringa and the monarch butterfly. The syringa is Idaho’s official state flower and is known for its small white blossoms and light fragrance. The monarch butterfly, named Idaho’s state insect in 1992, appears alongside the flower as another symbol tied to the state’s natural environment.
