Goldbacks are a privately issued form of voluntary local currency created from a thin layer of 24-karat gold sealed between layers of durable polyester film. Each note features detailed artwork and contains a precise fractional amount of real gold. This unique construction makes Goldbacks one of the few modern currency formats designed with gold intended for spending. The series first appeared in Utah and has gradually expanded to other states, blending the historic value of precious metals with a format meant for everyday use. The Idaho Goldback is the newest state issue in the series and introduces another denomination while continuing the tradition of state-themed designs. Right now, 100 Idaho Goldback Gold Notes are available online from BullionMax.

Note Highlights:

  • Notes arrive inside protective plastic sleeves!
  • Largest note in the series!
  • Distinctive design for the Idaho series!
  • Imagery based on the allegory Libertas!
  • Contains 1/10 troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • Libertas strides through a field with a shovel in hand as the Shoshone Falls crash in the background.
  • Please bear in mind that Goldbacks are NOT US legal tender.
  • UV enhancements and other advanced security features included.

These 100 Idaho Goldback Gold Notes represent the highest denomination currently available in the series. Each note is offered individually and comes housed in a protective plastic sleeve. Goldbacks include a number of built-in security features such as UV-reactive elements, micro-printing, and unique serial numbers that help verify authenticity and maintain quality.

For the design of the 100 Idaho Goldback Gold Note, Libertas appears walking forward toward the viewer while holding a shovel. She is depicted standing in a field with the powerful Shoshone Falls visible behind her. Located along the Snake River in Idaho’s Magic Valley near Twin Falls, Shoshone Falls plunges roughly 212 feet—nearly 50 feet higher than Niagara Falls—making it one of the tallest natural waterfalls in North America. The falls stretch close to 1,000 feet across at their widest point and were formed thousands of years ago when the Bonneville Flood carved through layers of ancient basalt lava flows around 14,500 years ago. Long before modern settlement, the falls were an important and sacred place for Indigenous communities of the region, including the Shoshone-Bannock tribes.

Libertas, the Roman goddess who symbolizes liberty, has been a lasting representation of freedom throughout Western history. Her image first appeared in ancient Rome where the concept of liberty was closely tied to civic duty and personal rights. Roman citizens honored Libertas as a symbol of the freedoms they were responsible for protecting. Over time, her figure became a powerful allegorical image used across different eras and societies, including the inspiration behind the Statue of Liberty that stands in New York Harbor today.
