Goldbacks are privately issued notes designed for use as a voluntary local currency. Each note contains a thin layer of 24-karat gold sealed inside durable polyester, allowing it to hold a precise fractional amount of real gold. This unique construction makes Goldbacks one of the few modern forms of currency that include spendable precious metal. First introduced in Utah, the Goldback series has since expanded to additional states and continues to combine the value of gold with the idea of everyday trade. The Idaho Goldback series adds another state to the lineup with new artwork and denominations. Right now, 25 Idaho Goldback Gold Notes are available from BullionMax.

Note Highlights:

  • Arrives in protective sleeves or bundles of four notes!
  • Distinctive designs for the Idaho series!

Each 25 Idaho Goldback Gold Note offered here contains 24-karat gold layered within the protective structure of the note. Individual notes are packaged in protective sleeves, while multiples of four are bundled together without sleeves and secured using a black strap.

Scientia represents the classical idea of knowledge and learning. In artistic tradition, she appears as a radiant figure whose calm and thoughtful presence reflects the effort required to gain understanding and the clarity that knowledge can bring. The word scientia comes from the Latin term scire, meaning “to know.” She is often shown holding objects such as a book, torch, or astrolabe, each symbolizing discovery, inquiry, and the careful study of the world. Philosophers long viewed scientia as something deeper than simple information, representing a thoughtful and reasoned understanding developed through study, observation, and careful thinking.

On the design of the 25 Idaho Goldback Gold Note, a female scientist is shown working on the development of the first nuclear facility in the United States to generate electricity. On December 20, 1951, the Experimental Breeder Reactor I (EBR-I) located near Arco, Idaho, became the first nuclear reactor in the world to produce usable electricity. This achievement marked an important moment in the history of scientific research and energy production. During the early years of research at EBR-I and the larger Idaho National Laboratory complex, women scientists played important roles in advancing nuclear science, contributing to areas such as reactor safety studies, nuclear chemistry, and other research that supported the development of nuclear power.
