Goldbacks are a privately issued, voluntary local currency created with a thin layer of 24-karat gold sealed between durable polymer sheets. Each note features detailed artwork and contains a precise fraction of real gold, giving Goldbacks a unique role as a modern gold-backed currency designed for everyday transactions. Originally introduced in Utah, the Goldback concept has expanded to several states as a way to combine the historic value of precious metals with practical exchange. The Idaho series now joins this growing collection, featuring new designs connected to the state’s history and character. Today, 5 Idaho Goldback Gold Notes are available from BullionMax.

Note Highlights:

  • Comes with individual sleeves or bundles of 20 notes!
  • Special design for the Idaho series!
  • Visuals inspired by the allegory Clementia!
  • Contains 1/200 troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • The design recalls the Great Fire and its aftermath in Idaho.
  • Please keep in mind that Goldbacks are NOT US legal tender.
  • UV enhancements and other advanced security features included.

Clementia is the Roman figure representing mercy, kindness, and thoughtful restraint. In classical art, she is often shown as a calm and dignified woman with a gentle expression, sometimes holding an olive branch or lowering a scepter as a sign of forgiveness and moderation. This symbolism reflects the idea that strength and leadership can be guided by compassion rather than force. As an allegorical figure tied to stewardship and care, Clementia also reflects the responsibility people have when managing land and natural resources.

All 5 Idaho Goldback Gold Notes are made with 24-karat gold layered within protective materials to preserve the note while still containing real precious metal. Individual notes are packaged in protective currency sleeves. When purchased in quantities of 20, the notes are delivered in a bundled stack secured with a black band and do not include individual sleeves. Each Goldback also includes modern security elements such as UV-reactive artwork, detailed micro-printing, and serialized numbering.

The obverse design of the 5 Idaho Goldback Gold Note features Clementia caring for wildlife in the aftermath of the Great Fire. The Great Fire of 1910, often called “the Big Blowup,” remains the largest wildfire event in United States history. Over a single August weekend, powerful winds and extremely dry conditions fueled fires that burned roughly three million acres across Idaho, Montana, and Washington. The disaster claimed 85 lives and destroyed several communities, including Wallace and Avery in Idaho. The event played a major role in shaping national forest policy and helped strengthen support for the U.S. Forest Service.
