To mark the 250th anniversary of American independence, Goldbacks has released a special one-time Washington D.C. Goldback. Washington D.C. was selected as the nation’s capital under the Residence Act of 1790, following discussions led by Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. This commemorative note highlights Columbia, one of America’s earliest female allegorical figures, as its central design. Today, 1 Colorized Washington D.C. Goldback Gold Notes are available from BullionMax.
Note Highlights:
Each 1 Colorized Washington D.C. Goldback Gold Note is packaged in a protective currency slab and carries a GEM sub 70 grade. This grade reflects a strong overall visual appeal, with no noticeable flaws visible to the naked eye. Under magnification, there may be very minor or faint imperfections, such as slight centering variances.
Washington D.C. was formed from land provided by Maryland and Virginia along the Potomac River. The location was chosen to create a balance between northern and southern states. President George Washington selected the site himself and appointed Pierre Charles L’Enfant to design the city’s layout. The capital officially moved from Philadelphia to Washington in 1800, though the city remained under construction and sparsely developed for many years.
The obverse of the Colorized Washington D.C. Goldback Gold Note features Columbia standing prominently in the foreground, with the U.S. Capitol Building visible in the background. Columbia is traditionally portrayed with symbolic items that reflect national values. In this design, she holds a shield and a sword. The shield represents protection, liberty, and the defense of the nation’s independence. The sword reflects strength and readiness to defend freedom when necessary. Together, these symbols present a balanced image of a country committed to safeguarding its principles while remaining prepared to act when needed.
