Product Details

The Australian Lunar Series II program debuted from the Perth Mint in 2008 as the second generation of its popular lunar-themed bullion coins. This collection follows the 12-year cycle of animals from the Chinese zodiac and is built on the earlier Lunar Series I (1996-2007) with refreshed designs, improved striking quality, and a wider variety of gold and silver options for collectors. Right now, 2010 1/2 oz Australian Gold Year of the Tiger Coins from Lunar Series II are available from BullionMax.

Coin Highlights:

  • Comes with an acrylic capsule!
  • 3rd year of release in the Lunar Series II program!
  • Honors the Year of the Tiger!
  • Final mintage of only 9,781 coins!
  • Contains 1/2 troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • The face value of $50 (AUD) is backed by the Australian government.
  • On the obverse is the fourth-generation bust of Elizabeth II.
  • The reverse features the head of a tiger in front-facing relief.

The 2010 1/2 oz Australian Gold Year of the Tiger Coin represents the third release in the Lunar Series II cycle and recognizes those born under the Tiger zodiac sign. Struck in .9999 fine gold, this 1/2 oz coin offers a balanced option for buyers who want a premium lunar gold issue without stepping up to the larger and more expensive weights in the series.

Each 2010 1/2 oz Australian Gold Year of the Tiger Coin arrives inside an acrylic capsule for added protection. The 1/2 oz Gold Tiger is also notable for its low mintage total, with just 9,781 coins sold. In 2010, only the largest formats in the series (2 oz, 10 oz, 1 kilo, and 10 kilo) had lower reported mintage figures, giving this coin added appeal for those who value lower production numbers.

On the obverse of the 2010 Australian Gold Year of the Tiger Coin is the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This portrait was widely used on Australian coinage during this time and depicts Her Majesty in right-profile relief wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. Surrounding inscriptions provide the monarch’s name, the issuing nation, the face value, the year of issue, and other identifying details.

The reverse of the 2010 1/2 oz Gold Year of the Tiger Coin features a detailed front-facing view of a tiger’s head. Often linked with strength and confidence in Chinese tradition, the tiger is shown with a focused expression and textured fur that highlights the Perth Mint’s careful engraving work. The design captures the animal’s intensity while maintaining the clean, polished style collectors expect from Lunar Series II releases.
