Western Australia’s gold output started modestly in the late 1880s and surged in the 1890s after major finds at Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie. During the peak years of the early rush, from the mid-1890s into the early 1900s, the fields around Perth and across the state produced hundreds of thousands of ounces each year.
