Goldbacks have reached the American Southwest with the launch of the Arizona Goldback Series. This series features artwork inspired by Arizona’s layered past—from Spanish missions and Mexican governance to the territory’s path toward joining the United States. Right now, 1 oz Arizona Goldback Gold Notes are available from BullionMax.
Note Highlights:
Each 1 Arizona Goldback Gold Note ships in a protective currency sleeve or can be ordered in a bundle pack of 100 notes. The 1 oz Arizona Goldback highlights the region’s early 19th-century period, when Mexico took control after gaining independence from Spain in 1821.
After Mexico’s independence in 1821, the presidio at Tubac served as a key frontier outpost in the northern part of Sonora. It supported both soldiers and civilians, and the area saw more Mexican settlement as missionary influence waned. Tubac experienced brief growth through mining and ranching, even as Apache raids continued to threaten daily life.
The 1 Arizona Goldback shows a woman in early-19th-century Mexican dress standing near Mission San Jose de Tumacacori in the Santa Cruz River Valley. Founded by Father Kino in 1691, the mission is one of Arizona’s oldest European sites and part of a chain of missions that extended north from Mexico. Its dome and adobe walls reflect multiple construction phases before the complex was abandoned in the 1840s amid raids and shifting politics after Mexican independence.
