In 2026, the American Gold Eagle bullion series marks its 40th anniversary. The US Mint first introduced the American Eagle gold coins in 1986, offering four weights to suit different buyers, and striking each one in 22-karat gold. That 22-karat blend is well known for its mix of 91.67% gold, 5.33% copper, and 3% silver, giving the coins added durability. The obverse of the 2026 American Gold Eagle features the timeless Lady Liberty design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Liberty strides forward toward the viewer with a torch held high in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Stars circle the design, and sunrays rise behind her to complete the classic image.
On the reverse of the 2026 1 oz Gold Eagle Coins is the current American bald eagle design. Introduced in 2020 and also designed by Jennie Norris, this side shows the eagle’s head in left-profile relief, highlighting strong detail in the feathers and eye.
