The obverse of every 2026 1/4 oz Gold Kangaroo features King Charles III in left-profile relief without a crown. This portrait by Dan Thorne is the first official effigy of the King to appear on Australian coinage.

The reverse of the 2026 Australian Gold Kangaroo presents two kangaroos moving through a shallow pool, with gentle ripples forming around their landings. The scene highlights the balanced, energy-saving motion that makes the kangaroo’s hop so recognizable.

When Europeans arrived in 1788, kangaroos drew immediate attention as unfamiliar wildlife. Over time, the kangaroo became a key symbol of Australia in art and media. As farming spread, however, kangaroos were also seen as competing for pasture, leading to culling practices that continue in adjusted forms today.

These 2026 1/4 oz Australian Gold Kangaroo Coins come in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and are housed in protective acrylic capsules. The 1/4 oz coin carries the second-lowest mintage limit in the range at 150,000 pieces, which is 50,000 more than the cap for the 1/2 oz coin.
