In 2021, the United States Mint brought back two of its most respected silver dollar designs, a move that was widely welcomed by collectors. The release marked the 100th anniversary of the final Morgan Dollar and the debut of the original Peace Dollar. Beginning in 2023, these classic silver dollars have continued as annual collectible issues designed for modern numismatists. Today, certified Proof Peace Silver Dollar Coins are available for purchase from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Each Proof Peace Silver Dollar available here is graded in flawless condition. PF/PR70 examples display full mint luster and are free of visible imperfections under magnification. These certified coins may include different years of issue starting from 2023, along with varying mint marks or label styles. Specific years, mint marks, or labels cannot be selected ahead of time, as all orders are fulfilled at random once payment has been confirmed.
Production levels of the original Peace Dollar series declined steadily after its initial release in the early 1920s. While the 1924 and 1925 coins were struck in moderate quantities, mintages dropped sharply from 1926 through 1928. Several branch mint issues from this period are now considered scarce, especially as demand for silver dollars waned. The 1928 Philadelphia Peace Dollar stands out with a notably low mintage, and no Peace Dollars were struck at the Denver or San Francisco mints in 1927.
The obverse design of the Peace Dollar features a left-facing image of Lady Liberty created by sculptor Anthony de Francisci. Liberty wears a radiant crown with rays extending outward, symbolizing hope, freedom, and progress. De Francisci modeled the portrait after his wife, Teresa, giving Liberty a youthful and modern appearance that differed from earlier interpretations used on US coinage.
On the reverse, the Peace Dollar presents a calm image of an American bald eagle resting on a rock while holding an olive branch. This peaceful pose was chosen to reflect the nation’s desire for harmony following World War I. The softer imagery marked a clear departure from the more aggressive eagle designs seen on previous silver dollar coins.
