The year 2021 saw the revival of two classic US silver dollar designs that remain popular with today’s collectors. To honor the 100th anniversary of the final Morgan Dollar release and the debut of the original Peace Dollar, the US Mint reintroduced both designs for modern production. Beginning in 2023, these historic silver dollars became part of a yearly release schedule. Certified Proof Peace Silver Dollar Coins are now available for purchase online from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
The Proof Peace Silver Dollar features the well-known obverse created by sculptor Anthony de Francisci. This design shows a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty wearing a crown with sharp rays extending outward. The rays are meant to symbolize progress, hope, and freedom. De Francisci used his wife, Teresa, as the model for Liberty, giving the design a softer and more modern look compared to earlier silver dollar portraits.
On the reverse, the Proof Peace Dollar Coin displays an American bald eagle perched calmly on a rock while holding an olive branch. This scene was chosen to reflect peace following the end of World War I. Unlike earlier US coin designs that showed eagles in flight or with arrows, this image emphasizes calm and stability, reinforcing the coin’s message of peace.
The original Peace Dollar was first struck in 1921 using a high-relief design. While visually impressive, the high relief caused production issues, including rapid die wear and stacking problems. As a result, the Mint adjusted the design to a lower relief beginning in 1922. Large numbers of Peace Dollars were produced at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco mints to meet the requirements of the Pittman Act. The 1922 issue recorded especially strong mintages, with continued high production in 1923 that helped cement the Peace Dollar as the nation’s primary silver dollar.
These Proof Peace Silver Dollar Coins are offered in PF/PR69 certified condition, placing them just one step below a perfect grade. Coins at this level retain full original mint luster and eye appeal, with no more than two very small imperfections. Any minor marks or hairlines are outside the main focal areas. Please note that specific years of issue, mint marks, and slab labels cannot be guaranteed, as all selections are made at random after payment is processed.
