Collectors were excited to see two of the US Mint’s most familiar silver dollar designs return in 2021. That year marked 100 years since the last original Morgan Dollar was issued and the first Peace Dollar was released. To honor both milestones, the US Mint brought back these classic designs for modern collectors. Starting in 2023, the Peace Dollar has been issued each year as a collectible silver coin. Today, certified Peace Silver Dollar Coins are available from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
The Peace Dollar was first introduced in December 1921, with the earliest coins struck on December 28 at the Philadelphia Mint. The design was selected through a competition organized by the Commission of Fine Arts, with sculptor Anthony de Francisci chosen to create a coin that symbolized peace after World War I. The original 1921 release featured a high-relief strike, resulting in strong detail but making large-scale production difficult. As a result, the design was adjusted in later years to allow for easier minting.
All Peace Silver Dollar Coins offered here are graded Mint State 70. This top grade means the coins are considered flawless, showing full mint luster with no visible marks or imperfections under magnification. Please note that this listing includes coins dated from 2023 onward. Specific years of issue and label styles are selected at random, and a particular year or label cannot be guaranteed.
The obverse of the Peace Silver Dollar features a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty designed by Anthony de Francisci. Liberty wears a radiant crown with rays extending outward, symbolizing freedom, hope, and enlightenment. De Francisci based Liberty’s appearance on his wife, Teresa, giving the design a softer and more modern look compared to earlier Liberty portraits used on US coinage.
On the reverse of the Peace Silver Dollar, a bald eagle is shown resting peacefully on a rock while holding an olive branch. This calm imagery reflects the nation’s desire for peace following World War I. The relaxed pose of the eagle stands in contrast to the more aggressive and defensive eagle designs seen on earlier American silver dollars.
