In 2026, The Perth Mint will add a new release to its Lunar Series III lineup with coins honoring the Year of the Horse. The horse is the seventh animal in the 12-year Chinese Zodiac cycle, and the 2026 issue celebrates the Year of the Fire Horse. Each animal in the zodiac appears in five different elemental forms over time. Today, you can find 2026 5 oz Australian Silver Lunar Horse Coins available at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
The obverse of the 2026 5 oz Silver Lunar Horse Coin features the left-profile effigy of King Charles III. This uncrowned portrait is the first official Australian coin design of Charles III, created by artist Dan Thorne.
On the reverse, the design shows a mare and her foal moving together through grassy terrain, with a distant mountain range completing the backdrop. Ing Ing Jong, who first worked on a Perth Mint lunar coin in 2013, designed this scene for the 2026 release.
In Chinese culture, the horse is valued for more than just its zodiac connection. Horses played an essential role in transportation, agriculture, and warfare in ancient China. This importance made the horse a symbol of qualities such as endurance, loyalty, speed, and dignity in traditional art and stories.
Each 2026 5 oz Australian Silver Lunar Horse Coin is packaged in its own protective acrylic capsule and is offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. A micro-engraved security mark is included on the reverse and can be viewed with magnification.
