The Silver Libertad series from the Mexican Mint has been a part of the bullion world since 1982, starting with the release of the 1 oz silver BU coin. Just a year later, the 1 oz proof version made its debut. By 1986, these proof coins became a regular part of the annual lineup, and over time, the series welcomed a variety of weights, including smaller fractional sizes. Today, you can find the 2025 1/4 oz Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins available through BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
During Mexico’s early independence period, the national coat of arms saw several updates. After the 1821 Plan of Iguala, the short-lived Mexican Empire under Agustín de Iturbide introduced new emblems that tried to merge ancient heritage with the needs of a modern government. These designs often showed an eagle wearing a crown, highlighting the imperial stage in Mexican history. Later republican versions leaned more toward traditional symbols rooted in pre-Columbian culture.
Each 2025 1/4 oz Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coin comes in an acrylic capsule for added protection. These proof coins are known for their sharp, frosted images and shiny, mirror-like backgrounds. The 1/4 oz size was first introduced in 1992 and, except for 2012, has been released every year since then.
The obverse of the 2025 Proof Mexican Silver Libertad includes Mexico’s current national emblem. This modern version displays a golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus, holding a serpent in its beak and talon. While the larger 1 oz and multi-ounce coins feature a ring of historical seals around the central design, this fractional version displays only the current coat of arms.
On the reverse side, the Winged Victory statue is shown standing on top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column. In the distance, the twin volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl can be seen rising in the background, creating a scenic and symbolic image.
