Each 2015 1 Kilo Mexican Silver Libertad Coin arrives in a plastic capsule for easy handling and storage. The first 1 Kilo Libertad from the mint was a Proof released in 2002, followed by the BU style in 2008. When the 2015 BU coin was issued, it stood as the lowest mintage for the 1 Kilo BU Libertad up to that time.

Mexico’s national coat of arms traces back to an Aztec story of an eagle on a cactus with a serpent. After independence in 1821, the emblem appeared in many forms that reflected the era—some with European touches like crowns, others leaning into indigenous elements. The version standardized in 1968 shows a golden eagle in profile, wings partly spread, perched on a prickly pear cactus growing from a rock above water, grasping a snake in its beak and talon.

The obverse of the 2015 Mexican Silver Libertad centers the current coat of arms—an eagle seizing a serpent while standing on a cactus. Encircling this main seal are 10 earlier versions of the national emblem, some dating to the early 1800s, illustrating how the symbol evolved over time.

On the reverse of the 2015 1 Kilo Silver Libertad, two important Mexican icons appear together. Behind is the volcanic duo Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, named for a well-known legend. In front stands the Angel of Independence, the Winged Victory statue from Mexico City, a familiar figure representing freedom.
