On the obverse of the 2009 1/10 oz Gold Philharmonic, you’ll find an image of the pipe organ located inside the Musikverein in Vienna. This concert hall is the main venue for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The hall where the orchestra performs is called the Golden Concert Hall.

The reverse side of the coin shows several musical instruments associated with the Vienna Philharmonic. At the center is a large cello, flanked by two violins. Behind them, you’ll see a horn, bassoon, and harp. This arrangement celebrates Austria’s musical heritage.

The Gold Philharmonic made its debut in 1989 with 1 oz and 1/4 oz coins. The 1/10 oz coin was added in 1991, followed by the 1/2 oz in 1994, and finally the 1/25 oz in 2014. Originally, these coins had values listed in Austrian Schillings, but starting in 2002, they began using the Euro.

Each 2009 1/10 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coin is shipped in a protective flip. This particular issue holds the record for the highest mintage in its weight category, a result of increased demand during the global financial crisis of 2008–2011.
