The Gold Maple Leaf series began with just the 1 oz gold coin in 1979, featuring .999 fine gold. In 1982, the Mint introduced both the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz options. The 1/2 oz coin followed in 1986, and a smaller 1/20 oz version arrived in 1993. The most recent addition is the 1 Gram coin, which launched in 2014.

Each 2001 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin is packaged in a plastic flip. This 1/10 oz version was one of the original fractional coins introduced to the Maple Leaf lineup. It appeared alongside the 1 oz and 1/4 oz coins when the Royal Canadian Mint expanded the series in 1982. All three weights feature 24-karat (.9999 pure) gold.

The obverse of the 2001 Gold Maple Leaf shows Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile. Canadian artist Dora de Pedery-Hunt created this design in 1990. The portrait includes the George IV State Diadem and was the first image of the Queen for Canadian coins made by a Canadian artist.

On the reverse, you’ll find the sugar maple leaf. This iconic design was created in 1979 by Walter Ott. It has appeared on all Maple Leaf bullion coins across the gold, silver, platinum, and palladium versions of the series.
