Product Details

On May 8, 2025, Catholics around the world heard a phrase that marks the end of a papal election: Habemus Papam. This time, it carried even more meaning as Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was introduced as the new Pope—making history as the first American chosen for the role. You can now order 1 oz America’s First Pope Silver Rounds at BullionMax.

Round Highlights:

  • Arrives in a protective plastic flip!
  • Celebrating America’s First Pope!
  • Proof-like visuals!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
  • The obverse features a portrait of Pope Leo XIV at his debut.
  • On the reverse is a view of Vatican City.

Each 1 oz America’s First Pope Silver Round ships inside a protective plastic flip. These rounds have proof-like visuals, with detailed frosted designs and bright mirror-like backgrounds. The portrait of Pope Leo XIV shows him just after he first stepped onto the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica.

The Latin phrase Habemus Papam, meaning “We have a Pope,” is traditionally spoken from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica to signal the election of a new Pope. The Cardinal Protodeacon delivers the announcement to the crowd in the square, marking the end of the Conclave—a closed-door vote that requires a two-thirds majority to choose the next leader of the Roman Catholic Church.

The obverse of the America’s First Pope Silver Round features a front-facing image of Pope Leo XIV. Formerly known as Robert Francis Prevost, Pope Leo XIV is the first American ever selected as Pope. In this design, he is shown in ceremonial robes as he greets the world with his hands clasped, having just been introduced from the balcony at St. Peter’s Basilica.

On the reverse of the round is a view of Vatican City. Formed in 1929 by the Lateran Treaty, this independent city-state is home to historic landmarks such as St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. It also runs its own systems—from a postal service and bank to the famous Swiss Guard, known for their colorful uniforms and protective role.
