In 1972, the Mexican Mint released a special silver coin to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Benito Pablo Juarez, one of Mexico’s most influential presidents. Struck with an alloy of 72% silver and 28% copper, this commemorative piece was issued in limited numbers and includes distinctive edge lettering. Today, BullionMax offers the 1972 25 Pesos Mexican Silver Juarez Coin in collectible condition.
Coin Highlights:
Each 1972 25 Pesos Mexican Silver Juarez Coin is housed in a protective plastic flip. These coins are made using a strong silver-copper alloy, enhancing their durability while retaining their historic value and visual appeal.
Benito Juárez, born in 1806 in Oaxaca, came from a Zapotec Indigenous background and rose through adversity to become a lawyer and eventually the President of Mexico. He played a central role in reforming the country during periods of war and foreign intervention, leaving a lasting legacy as a defender of the republic and national sovereignty.
The obverse of the coin shows the national seal of Mexico. This detailed design features a left-facing golden eagle perched on a cactus, wings outstretched as it battles a serpent. Below the eagle, a wreath made of oak and laurel branches adds to the national symbolism of the image.
On the reverse, you’ll find a portrait of President Benito Juarez. He passed away on July 18, 1872, while serving his fourth term as president. Juarez died from a heart attack while working at the National Palace in Mexico City, bringing an end to a significant era in Mexican political life. His death was deeply mourned by the people of Mexico.
