Product Details

The Morgan Silver Dollar Series was first introduced by the United States Mint in 1878. This launch, featuring designs of Liberty and a bald eagle by George T. Morgan, marked the return of silver dollars after a five-year break. The Morgan Dollar was issued each year from 1878 to 1904, with one more release in 1921 as silver dollar production resumed after World War I. Today, 1903 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available in certified condition through BullionMax.

Coin Highlights:

  • Arrives in a protective plastic slab!
  • 26th issue in the Morgan Dollar Series!
  • Total mintage of 4,652,000 coins from the Philadelphia Mint!

Each 1903 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin offered here holds a Mint State 65 grade. These coins retain bright mint luster, with minor, scattered contact marks, the occasional larger mark, and some isolated hairlines.

George T. Morgan’s talents earned him an immediate role as an assistant engraver at the Philadelphia Mint, where he built a long and distinguished career. In 1917, he became the seventh Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. During his time at the Mint, Morgan crafted many important patterns, medals, and coins. His service lasted nearly 50 years until his passing in 1925, making him one of the Mint’s longest-serving engravers.

The obverse of the 1903 Morgan Dollar features Morgan’s famous portrait of Liberty. Liberty faces left, wearing a Phrygian cap, a laurel wreath, and a coronet inscribed with “Liberty.” Surrounding the image are 13 stars representing the original colonies.

The reverse of the 1903 Morgan Silver Dollar presents Morgan’s heraldic eagle. The bald eagle is shown with wings spread wide, holding an olive branch in one talon and a set of arrows in the other. A partial wreath wraps around the eagle from below, with the national motto displayed overhead.
