Anthony de Francisci designed both the obverse and reverse of the Peace Dollar. The reverse shows a bald eagle perched on a rock, facing a rising sun while holding an olive branch in its talons. The word “PEACE” is engraved beneath the eagle, making it the first American coin to directly celebrate the concept of peace.
