Each 2002 1 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra Coin is safely housed in a plastic capsule. While the maximum mintage limit was set at 300,000 coins, only 91,604 coins were sold, showing a decline in mintage figures for the Kookaburra series at the beginning of the 21st century.

Kookaburras are native to Australia and are mostly found along the eastern and southern coastal areas. The laughing kookaburra can be seen from Cape York Peninsula down through New South Wales, Victoria, and parts of South Australia. Meanwhile, the blue-winged kookaburra mainly inhabits the northern parts of Australia, from Western Australia’s Kimberley region across to northern Queensland.

The obverse side of the 2002 Silver Kookaburra features Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy. This design marks the fifth portrait used on Australian coinage, showcasing the Queen in right-profile wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.
